Will my Pindo Palm Survive again?

My Pindo Palm has seen 4 winters now. I live in North Texas - Dallas. I planted this Pindo Palm in Spring of 2007. The winter of 2007 and 2008 were not bad and my Pindo Palm survived pretty easily with no protection. Winter of 2009-2010 was not good, North Texas had record snowfall and my Palm was pretty dead. There was spear pull from the center of the Palm tree but miraculously the tree survived. This winter, I wrapped it around with a light blanket but we had a three day stretch of extreme cold weather. Now this time again, the center spear have come out and I see a small hole in the middle of the trunk. The only good thing is that there are two to three fronds that are still somewhat green. Considering that it's not a baby Palm, do you think just like last year, my Palm will - against all odds - survive again?

Quickly, go pour hydrogen peroxide into the center whole and it may arrest the spear pull. I know it a bummer, but it may survive. Give it time. Most importantly, when you protect a palm the bud Head with fronds should be wrapped in wet proof materials. Blankets are not good if they get wet and freeze.

I heard about the cold there. I would plany another one as well, but on the southside of my home for some natural winter protection as well.

How did other palms in the community do?

I lived in Dallas for a year and thought it would be a great place to experiment with Palms.

If you utilize some good winter protection every year, your tree will be bullet proof.

However, as the lassez-fair approach has mostly yielded good results, perhaps have some kind of "stand by" protection at the ready. A good frost blanket or a commercially sold temporary greenhouse could be used whenever a serious dose of cold heads your way.

I recall the winters there were fairly predictable. Warm or moderate for 4 or 5 days and then a dip due to a cold front. Then it would warm up and the cycle would repeat itself.

Sorry for the late reply. I still see no new spears coming out from that hole in the middle. Temps in Dallas are between 60-82 F these days. So I guess, it needs to get more hotter for the Palm to start growing again.

Question, how much hydrogen peroxide should I pour in the middle? Should it be concentrated (right from the bottle) or should it be diluted with water. Should I spray or just pour it in.

This palm looks pretty far gone to me,you may want to consider trunk cutting....
with as far south as you live,it should have come back by now.

Guys, thank you for your advice. But I want to let you all know that my Pindo Palm has survived again! :) Starting June, new leaves are coming out of the crown. I'm so happy!
