Can anybody recommend a good potting mix for Areca Palms?
I keep finding vague information, I was also recommended MG orchid mix MG Catus mix and Perlite in equal parts, ive been researching that abit and MG mixes had mixed reviews from little sand in the cactus mix to soil generally not draining water propery to poor quality etc which has put me off abit.
I have a book recommending equal parts of loam and sand (not builders sand) and abit of horse/cow manure. Is that all available in garden centers in the uk? Would John Innes No 2 be the loam part of the mix? Or is No2 the complete mix of a general compost and not loamy enough?
Or maybe my own mix, if I use No2 for most of the mix say 50% then 25% fine sand 25% Perlite? Would I need to add any extra peat for that mix?
