Unbelievable -- the Lazarus Palm.

I had a pleasant and very unexpected surprise.

In Feb 2011, something tripped the circuit breaker in the greenhouse where I was overwintering various palms. At the time, there was an ice dam across the doorway from dripping melt water, and I couldn't get into it for a number of weeks until a thaw. We had quite cold temps, in fact, the coldest winter in a number of years here.

So, I lost almost everything since their "life support" went out.

Including my two large windmill palms. Nothing resprouted last year, and I completely gave up watering them around late July/early August.

This spring, in March, I pulled the corpses. One had rotted off at the base, the other was still attached to the root systems. I tossed these up against the side of the greenhouse and just left them there, with the intent of eventually disposing of them.

Well, the one that was still rooted has two fronds coming out of the center, albeit stunted ones with brown tips.

Blows my mind. I'm going to baby it and see if it will come back to good health.
