if no soft spots, good chances. These need a very bright sunny spot, excellently draining soil and lots of heat or will often sulk, sometimes for years.

Thanks Drlizzard. Its not large enough for a caudex,but it didnt fall apart-leafs held,soilball held. Its not in good shape though..a flush anytime this year would be a big relief..I paid more for that seedling then I've ever paid for any plant.

Unfortunately paying a lot of money doesn't mean it's gonna make it... I have seen people pay over $5000 for Encephalartos woodii caudeces and hold their breath for over 5 years, finally to watch them collapse in on themselves. Cycads are just no guarantee... fortunately, most of the time things work out if you are doing things right at your end. This is a group of plants for patient gardeners.
