Growing queen palms in pots

First off, I just picked up a 9-10 foot queen palm at a local nursery for $79, I thought that seemed like a reasonable price for the size, at least in Michigan.

I have another, similar size in a pot already that never really seems to grow fast, and right now has a lot of winter recovery to do. Do queens do best in fast draining, light potting mixes or do they like to be kept on the wetter side with heavier soil? Also, is pot bound ok for them or do they like bigger pots to give their roots room to grow? I don't want them getting much bigger, but I do want them to have full crowns.
