Great subtropical plant find

This year I found a plant that I've never seen before. On first look, I thought it was Phoenix Roebellini. It looks so much like the young Roebellini's they sell in stores as indoor potted plants. But this is actually Soft Caress Mahonia. It reminds me of a cross between Phoenix Roebellini and Nandina. It is hardy to Zone 8, and would survive zone 7 with scorching (read up on some reviews). Beautiful plant. I bought 2.

And this pic demonstrates why I liken it to a cross w/ Nandina. The stems are very like Nandina. Many compare this plant to bamboo.

Thats a beautiful subtropical! The elegant leaves really do make it look tropical! Mahonias are kind of common here, I've seen a few in Central Park, but they are all the harder, holly-looking leaf varieties. They look nothing like yours and definitely not as nice as yours! And Im sure it doesnt have nasty spines like Roebeleniis do!
