Need expert advice on a Washingtonia?

| My washingtonia had a severe case of spear pull and I was wanting to know if it will eventually come out of it or is it a goner? I posted this a few weeks ago and was told to put peroxide in the hole and that I have done. There just appears to be no activity down in the hole. Should I give up on it and replace it or just be patient? Any help would be appreciated.

| I am no expert by any means... With the growth rate of Washys, it PROBABLY should have started something by now. What I would do is dig it up and pot it, just to make sure. |

| I would not dig it up -- why disturb the roots? Be patient. The color on it looks decent. On the other hand, if you can buy an equal-sized healthy plant for $10 or less in your area, compost it and replace it. |

| What contributed to the spear pull? Too much moisture? Too cold? I kept ALL moisture out of the spear this winter, and kept it above 26F at all times, mostly above 33F. Here is how mine looks today, up here in WI:

| Thanks for the advice. I don't think I should dig it up unless it is to replace it. The spear pulled from deep down in the plant. I pulled it in April and so far nothing has happened. I've had spear pull on two of my other Washys and they came back out rather quickly. This one is by far the worst. We had a wetter and colder than normal winter and I guess this one did not get enough protection. Its twin on the other side of the patio is doing really good. I've posted a pic below. wxman - yours looks great!

| WOW. Thats a really healthy palm. My washy is so bad I probably wont post a pic until later in the year. It doesnt even spend the winters outside, but in early april we had a really cold rainny day and most of the fronds were broken off when we hit max gusts probably around 60 mph . Even the spear broke, but now 3 new leaves are comming up so hopefully it will look like a plant soon. Also dont give up hope with you other washingtonia because these palsm are pretty strong, and your palm looks like it is holding on to its leaves really well. Good luck |
