Great pics! That ensete is a giant! Your other bananas are huge too!

Everything is really doing amazing. Those cactus are bringing so much color and of course, I do like the flower pictures! Flowers are a great way to break up the green between tropicals, and a ton of your flowers are from succulents and tropicals which adds to the tropical look for sure!

Speaking of flowers, I know you will be getting some flowers from your bananas anyday now! Im really excited that my Velutina is making a flower (I just saw that today). Its my first banana flower ever and I definitely was not expecting a bloom from it.

Oh and those tree ferns are looking amazing. I cant wait to see pics of them when the fronds are up to your porch (which shouldnt be long from now at their rate!).

I always like to see pics of your amazing yard! Thanks for sharing!

Everything looks great. That ensete is huge and looks great. The pink Ice plant has non stop flowers that look nice. The washys are growing extremely fast. The agaves are getting big. I like the new waggie. I see you have a sago palm in the background. Have you ever considered planting it in the ground?
    Hows the dioon doing?

Great pics, everything is looking great. Your EE's are getting huge. I really love the look of your Washy. Do you remove your A. americanas from their pots every year when you plant them or do you plant the pot?

I believe you got some of those albino stargazers.lol The astilbe blooms look great. I plan on going to plant delights nursery in a couple weeks and they had 5 agaves in bloom this year. Hope to get some good pics from over there.

    Thanks Alex

The Banana flowers really are a treat,I hope they get much
bigger before flowering, the 2 behind the big Agave are bigger
plants than the one that flowered last year-of which they are
    pups(-:
And yea,the Tree ferns are already getting big and it's still June-
it will be fun to see where they end up!

    Dennis

I have thought of planting the Sago(A,americana too!) but there is already so much to protect!

My little Dioon is doing good and flushing right now, along
with all the other Cycads except the E.Princeps.
The Spinulosum I got from you last year died.

    Chad

Whayagonna do ehh? Walmart Stargazer lilies )-:

I do plant the A.americana and the variegated one, they get lifted
    in Nov.
Things just grow faster in the ground (-:

Root damage was the culprit Dennis,

Cool. Since Im in 5b too I love to bring the tropical feel to a really cold place. Are some of those palms in the ground? What are they to survive 5b temps?

Eveything looks awesome like always Jim. Your big Thai Giant is gonna be huge this year! Nice job keeping it going over winter.

Does it really make that big of a difference in growth speed planting washys in the ground? I have 2 in pots, and they've only put out 1 leaf so far this spring. I'm wondering if they're pot bound??? Maybe I should do the same and plant mine, then dig them up in the fall...

    Hunter

Only the big Agave,Bananas,Colocasia(EE's),Brugs get dug up.
All palms are in ground and "permanent" 0:

"What are they to survive 5b temps?"

Ahh,sounds like you are about to enter into the cool under
    belly of this palm forum-password-coldhardy palms.(-;

    Ryan

They definitely grow faster planted,I think I mentioned their on
like the 6th leaf our something.
Washy's are one palm that like big pots-it has been a cool spring though.

I would just put them in big pots and sink them if you want
them in ground-digging up every year would really shock the root system.

    Jim-
Everything looks great. How do you over-winter the Sequoia? I've always wanted to try one. I've ordered seeds a couple of times but not with much success. I got one to sprout last march but I accidentily cut the sprout off.

    Andy

I ordered from this seller on e-bay(see link),the
first winter I covered with a styrofoam rose cover.
This Sequoia saw -18F the first winter in it's cover
    and came out undamaged.

    Last winter I was a little lazier(so to speak)as I had plenty
    to cover already.
I just put a 4x4' board on the Northwest side of it to block
    the worst of the wind.

It take some damage from this but my understanding is
as they get older they have more sap which acts as a antifreeze
    to keep the damage down.

Very rough winters for it to start out but there it is.

This guy is a great seller...this is the size I got the first year.

He does have some a couple feet tall which would be a better idea.....but they grow fast!

I think you really should try growing one of these in your area!

They are beautiful/magical trees and very enjoyable to watch
grow as they are quite fast!

    In regard to what Hunter.

If you mean the cold hardy palms thing,I just meant there are a
lot of of us growing palms out of their zones(-:

    Yardman

I have been growing palms, bananas and such for 40 years.

I started this particular garden about 4 years ago or so.

My first attempt at coldhardy gardening was about 30 years ago
when I brought a Yucca Aloifolia home(at that time
    St.Louis) from Alabama....
    didn't work out to well-LOL

I finally have one though,it just took 30 years to finally get it right
and after it snapping in it's second year
and being almost leveled by the greenhouse collapse last winter...
it is finally becoming a specimen plant!
