My neighbors 18 year old southern mag

She said it's never been damaged, has no idea of the ID, but as you can see it's not very tall for 18 years. There are much larger mags than that around here. I think it might be root competition as someone on a previous post suggested.

    Are you sure it isn't one of the dwarf varieties?? "Little gem " tops at about 15 feet .
    Have no idea how to tell the cultivars on established plants . gary

    I think little gems are actually a little less hardy than grandiflora, so might not do as well as this in Pittsburgh.

    Wow, it defintiely is short for its age! I dont think its a dwarf since they definitely are zone 7 and up (at best), but it definitely is acting like a dwarf which might be a positive trait especially since it would overgrow the spot it's in now if it did get up to it's typical height. The fact that it' smaller also means you get to see the flowers!
