Trachycarpus 'Nova'?

Some have told me..sounds about right. I always wondered when it would look like a normal T. fortunei. It was shade grown for years...but its been in the sun the last two and never changed. I have no idea where it came from. I swear,it sprouted in my backyard..grew fast,then I moved it to the edge of the small yard. It might have come from a potted plant that I planted with the 'Nova' seed hidden in the soil mix. All I can guess, as I have many plants from the Berkeley Botanical Garden or specialty nurseries like the Dry Garden in Oakland.

Very interesting form, it doesn't look like those petioles should be able to support the fronds. I've never seen petioles that long on a trachy. Can't help on the idea, but beautiful trachy. I thought Nova was a relatively new cultivar though. I remember Gerry Tsen coming on the boards a few years ago talking about them. That plant seems awfully large.

Kinda looks like my one windmill which gets morning sun, but seems to be stretching to get closer to the afternoon sun. It's petioles are exceptionally long like this one.

Its always gotten afternoon sun. Now it gets midday- late sun for the most part. And the petioles and fronds are the same. It could not be that starved for light. And the fronds as you see are held high and a large amount of them. Most struggling for light palms, don't carry many fronds. Heck,I pruned some to make it easier for me to walk by!
