Hot day, lots o pics!

Another hot one, my car said 99F, my weather station said 100.8F at the same time. When it's that hot, 77.9F feels COLD when you come in the house. They just said on the news, our official low last night was 80F which was only the 4th time in recorded history that it's ever happened.

Sorry Paul in Cumberland, Md, I was at Lowe's in LaVale yesterday, they had a double minor and a butia as the only 2 blue pot specials, I bought the minor. It was completely rootbound and dry but loooked healthy. I repotted it and it's still not a big enough pot, but I wanted to keep them potted for a year because I've heard the less than legendary hardiness stories.

Nice pics! I hope my crinum and/ or my hardy agapanthus blooms this year! This is the second summer for the hardy agapanthus (I left it in a pot not knowing how hardy they were) and my 1st summer with crinums (but I think it will do well since I have seen them grown locally and they bloom around July usually)

I havent seen any buds on my crapes yet so yours are ahead of mine!

My agapanthus bloomed 2nd year, this is the first time in 3 years for the crinum to bloom. It's unfair to compare my crapes to yours. I bought mine in West Virginia this spring, I'm sure they were southern grown, because they were fully leafed out in April. Next year will be more telling. I'm just hoping the wood survives.

My hardy Agapanthus was in the ground for 6 years and it grew like crazy but never bloomed. Then I heard that they like to be potbound, so I potted it and the next year it bloomed. Then, when moving into the basement for winter (in a pot it wouldn't have been root hardy, and the pot would have shattered anyway if it froze) I dropped the pot. So I repotted it, but I guess it has to get rootbound again because it hasn't bloomed this year. Maybe next year?

Your crapes definitely had a southern advantage then! My crapes fill out in late April usually, but it's a late bloomer so while other crapes in my area are beginning to bloom, mine is still in leaf growth mode.
Too bad that it takes so long for crinum bulbs to bloom. I'm willing to wait though, the blooms are very nice!

I heard the same thing about Agapanthus needing to be potbound, its one of the reasons why I kept it in a pot. But all the ones around the area are blooming and mine is in a pot and it isnt! Or at least it isnt yet, hopefully soon!

Yes I think it will be better Jim. Better climate, more sun because of less trees. And I learn more every year from previous mistakes.
