I picked this up from a guy on craigslist here locally for $50. Guy didnt knw muh about it. It came with the house he bought. Can anyone help me identify it?

Im hoping it is. I heard those do much better here. My climate is a zone 7a. Deserty with less that 8 inches of rain. Its hard to find filiferas. Most of the nursuries here sell just the Mexican fan palm

It could be a filifera, sometimes I've seen robustas with trunks like that when they are growing slowly so I wouldn't completely rule that out either (could always be a hybrid between the 2).
Filiferas are definitely better for your climate, they would probably do very well in a 7a in the Desert SW.
