Kentucky or Tennessee Big box stores

Anybody in KY or TN know of any big box stores in your state that sell Needle palms? I'm looking for somewhere within a day's trip from Michigan where I could drive down and pick up a decent sized needle palm. I know Lowe's has sold some nice sized 25 gallon needles, but that was in Northern Florida.

If you go let me know. I'll give you some money towards your gas to pick me one up.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone asked at Lowe's or HD about special ordering these? I've read comments on other posts/boards that Lowe's stores can special order items that are in their supply chain but not stocked at local stores. However, it sort of sounds like it is up to each store's management whether or not they are willing to do it. Certainly would be worth a try, the worst they can do is tell you no.

Palmmandan, if I find a store and I decide to go, I'll let you know. Denninmi, I have asked at a local Lowe's, but they said they couldn't special order anything. They said what they receive was pushed to them by headquarters. I asked again, this time directly to the outdoor garden manager if she could get in some southern magnolias, she said she'd try. I've looked every time I'm there and there are none, so I kinda gave up at that Lowe's. I'd rather go with Lowe's than HD because Lowe's seems to have better prices and healthier plants, plus I bought a big 25 gallon needle from Lowe's a couple summers ago when I was in Panama City, so I know they're able to get them in a big size. The grower was Morningstar Nursery. Maybe I'll try some other Lowe's.

I wouldn't have too much hope of a big-box store carrying anything that specialized--their nurseries normally carry items for the mass-market. For something as rare (in the Upper South) as a needle palm, you should consider ordering over the internet. There are quite a few mail order nurseries that specialize in palms and subtropical plants. But carefully check the company's customer comments and ratings.

You might call around to the Home Depots in east TN. I bought a needle palm last month from the Lenoir City, TN HD. That store sold out pretty fast but some others in the area may still have some.

i live just outside richmond ky, and i found a home depot in lexing that carries a wide selection of hardy palms, 3 and 7 gallon needles nicely priced 3&7 gallon sabal minors, nice sized pindos and windmills too! there are two in lexington but the one just off richmond rd has less a selection. but the home depots north of lex dont have them i checked in florence while visiting and they have none. i bought a nice big 7 gal. needle for like $36.00 and a 7 gal minor for $24 i think.

Hey IslandBreeze, The Lowes in Rochester Hills at M-59 and Rochester will order anything. The nursery manager even got their suppliers full list for me via fax and let me order what ever. I still have the list (I think). I believe that Needle Palm was on there. Let me know, she just put in a special order to me and I told her I'd pass around this information about this particular Lowe's. Even the nursery agent as their distributor said they get these palm nuts from all over the midwest doing this on a regular basis. Let me know if you need help with this, I would even fax you list. . . The Yardman of Troy....

Yes Yardman I would much rather drive to Rochester Hills than Kentucky. If you do still have the list I would appreciate it if you could see what sizes of needles are on there. I don't have a fax at home, but you could fax it to my work fax.

Hmmmm, How do we contact each other? I don't want to post my number or email on here. Any ideas? Gerry "TheYardman"
