Compost query for Kentia Howea Forsteriana

Hi All What compost should my 13 year old Kentia palm be in. It is indoors in the United Kingdom. I have been using John Innes No 3 soil based compost with one third added horticultural sand for extra drainage. I have read some people use bark chippings only. Thanks for any help.It gets about 2 new fronds a year. I repot it every 2 years.

    Bark chippings only sounds wrong.
I use a very sandy/gritty potting mix because they last longer than more peat based blends. Cacti or succulent mix would be good, you'd just need to add a slow-release fertiliser.

Organic matter does break down quickly and is likely to leave a heavier soggy medium. You'd probably need to repot more frequently if you used bark (or other wholly organic medium). You'd be better off sticking with your sand.
