In this heat...

...nothin' better than to accept it and play along. Tune into Island92 from St. Maarten on your computer, fire up the blender (adult or virgin type drink), and go hang with your palms. Most people here seem to be from non-tropical areas with the mindset of bringing such an environment close to home. (Read: another lively thread somewhere on here). It was my gameplan the minute we bought our house...and I feel pretty satisfied that I've accomplished the goal. I water everything in the morning, thoroughly, brew some coffee, apply the sunscreen (also, thoroughly), and lounge outside with the Caribbean on my mind. Later, a lucky aspect for me I'll admit, it's off to the beach with the wife and son. Water temps this time of year, mid to upper 70's depending on the prevailing wind. Easy to complain about the heat, but I'll take it over the massive snow we dealt with this past Winter...

Nothin' like lookin' outisde and seeing all of your palms to give you a nice tropical feel.

Yes, also trade winds mean a decent breeze is more the norm. Yesterday, with a heat index of 120, I didn't even feel like I was still on the same planet. True too, in the real tropics people don't tend to slather on oil and lie on a burning beach during the hottest part of the day.

Today may go to 102 but doesn't feel as extreme but still early -- or maybe it's just heat exhaustion kicking in. :) Stay cool!

As hot as it's been lately(heat index's 110F-125F)
4 a week+...I can't really hang with my palms )-:

Only long enough to water them and then back inside.

I am guessing when I can have a look,they will have grown(-:

trishmick that sounds like a plan. Yall have been going from one extreme to the other in terms of weather. As long as you keep things hydrated those of you east of the west coast should have awesome palm/tropical growing weather for a while. Up this way I think things have finally turned the corner for us. Forecast looks sunny and warm for the next few. I hope so my palms and one and only banana are starving for summer like conditions. Well,admitedly, with the beach right here, I've got more of an access to cooling breezes. Actually, quite comfortable down there today, but the water was rough shore break and chilly. Temp can change drasticly from day to day. A week ago yesterday, it was perfect. Nice waves for my son and approaching bath water feel. And no doubt...after all the torrential rain all Spring and early this Summer, the sudden lack is similar to last year. Threatens to bust out, but doesn't. So...I water daily.....and still prefer this extreme to the alternative...
