Lowes is Willng to Discount Their Palms

I just picked up 5 beautiful 7 gallon needle palms. Each is nearly 4' tall (from the base of the palm) and has anywhere from 4 or more nice sized offsets growing underneath. They were priced at $98.00 and I asked if they would let them go for $70.00 and they agreed. I bought two from one store and three from another. The second deal was easier as I just asked them to match the other Lowes price. I think it also helped out that I walked in the garden center at 2 in the afternoon on 100+ degree days and I was the only customer in both nurseries and asked the first store manager how long he would have to wait until some other insane homeowner came in and wanted to buy these plants. Also, I didn't deal with the hired guns, I asked for the garden center manager straight away.

I figure on stripping one offset from each plant and potting them up for who knows what, perhaps a trade later on.

Thats GREAT! I wish my lowes had hardy palms. all they have is majesties, cat palms, and thats about it. You would think that in TN, hardy palms would be sold at alot of places.

Nice move.
Lowes' sales are down, as with all retailers (except maybe Walmart) I'm sure HD would do the same....gotta move the inventory.

I went to 2 HD and the Needles they had were terrible. Same size container, $50 but the palms were the same size or smaller than the offsets in the container of the plant that I bought for $70.00. Plus all the fans were ragged and two had spears that pulled right out. I mean maybe $15.00 but they really looked like the nursery had potted up offsets into a 7 gal container to fill the order.

Here is a pic of mine. The other 4 look pretty much the same. I don't know what is wrong with my wife's flipping camera. Taking terrible pictures now. ue your imagination I guess until I find a different one.
