Well, he sold seedlings in lot of 3 so there is a good chance that at least one has the trait.

I really love these palms! They are really Sabal Palmettos, that were somehow different (maybe a sub species, or something?). They are about as cold hardy as sabal palmettos, maybe slightly less. They really do look tropical, definitely worth growing with protection. If I ever saw a nice sized one for sale, I would buy it instantly!!

Aren't sabal Birmingham the hardiest of the sabal palmetto family? I think they're not that easy to come by,but might be the best for you in central Virginia, Hunter.

Hey, Alex, you have GOT to see this! Have you heard about the two sabal lisas on I-75 in fort meyers florida that they are trying to save from destruction? Well check this out! I was on google maps where they were and I found one!!! Its not the clearest pic and the trunk is covered in weeds, but there is no doubt in my mind that this is one of those two sabal lisas:
