Picture from March 8th,by far the earliest it has been free.

This palm has grown at least 11-12 leaves half way through the season(happy)

Over 6' and the leaves are really blasting upward in contrast to the more compact growth earlier.

I bet your wheels are spinning with how you're going to protect them as they get bigger.

    Thanks you guys......

You know, you always read* about how fast they can grow(-:

Nice to see it doing* and the many days of 90s-100s has definitely been to its liking!

While banana leaves a burning, other plants are smoking and some are just charred or disappeared!..........

The Washy just eats it up!

I am not kidding(except about the plants smoking:),I have seen plants disappear that were beautiful/healthy and the heat just wasted them!

Set a new record in the shade in the center of the cactus garden of 123F,the extra water to the cactus has helped or
some would be dead-its been that hot and dry.

HOW will I cover it and what happens when it gets big?
I planted it next to the house for a reason but I think at
15' or so I may not be able to cover it.

I always love seeing pictures of your Washys doing so well in Iowa. They look great. Reminds me of another Washy grower that had a Mex Fan in Iowa a few years back. Not sure on the fate of his palm though. Same thing with Blondeboy47, some of the veteran posters might remember him, he had a 6 foot Mexican Fan palm in Toronto.

    Thanks

Ryan, the other guy was Iowapalmz5,he posted some pics
that you can find by looking up that name or palms in Iowa.

I remember seeing(pics) his in May(memorial day) and it already
had a nice crown going but when I saw it the following
year,it had the same amount of fronds it did the previous May.

Don't know if he is still doing it but I asked him about his
Washy possibly going into decline but never heard back....

He used to hurricane cut every year-I wonder if it went in to decline...

Anyway, rather than start a new thread.....

Check out the Fiddle leaf fig-you guys may remember I got this a Wally world for $5

    its already growing(-:

    Also...look what this is doing-buds,branches!?

and...last but not least a new monster for the cactus garden.

    Looks tough doesn't he-it will need to be(-;
