You're better off collecting seed. Just pulling the seedlings out you can expect a very high mortality rate. What doesn't die will probably be set back. Seeds planted a the same time would outgrow them. Of course not all seeds will germinate and sometimes what's left on the ground ungerminated amongst the germinated ones are not viable. I know of a Bismarckia that drops hundreds of seeds regularly. The gound around has seedlings coming up like grass. It's regularly mown so the seedlings are cut back until they eventually die. But there a lot of seeds laying in amongst them. Difficult to tell what's viable or not. It's a matter of pot luck.

hi, thanks for replying. Some of the seedlings look more mature than others with the smallest chinese fan palm being only a few cm high and the canary dates being around 5 cm tall approx with the seedling leaves. i have them protected by cover inside an old bird avary that i have converted into a greenhouse. hopefully they survive ~ I LOVE MY PALMS!! :D
