Overwintering Windmill Palm

swct

I purchased a Monrovia grown Windmill Palm (Trachycarpus fortunei) which I have planted in a poolside container in Connecticut. This palm is an incredibly vigorous and is thriving in full sun with frequent watering.

Now that fall and winter are approaching, I would appreciate advice on overwintering. My three options (as I see it) are:

1) overwinter outdoors (high risk)

2) overwinter in an unheated garage with dim afternoon light through a window

3) overwinter in a heated indoor area near a south facing sunny window

I have read that windmill palms are very cold hardy, but I don't want to risk loosing this superb specimin. I have also read that these palms appreciate a cool, dormant period. Perhaps the garage is the best course of action.

Thanks for any advice on how to best keep my palm alive for future growing seasons!
