Its definitely a queen palm. They get yellow fronds pretty easily and love fertilizer so the more fertilizer the better. Watch out for spider mites indoors!

Well I did just find spider mites inside, so thanks for the heads up. It looks as if this plant was dehyrdrated then overwatered? Should I cut the whole yellow frond off to help it bounce back? or should i leave it? Queen palm? Thanks, I didn't even know the store carried those.

Leave it as long as you can stand it. It is good for the plant. It sucks nutrients from the yellowing branch.

You can leave it for now. Once it gets more unsightly you can cut it off, but until then all green and greenish fronds provide nutrients for the palm and the more fronds, the more nutrients from the sun!

I'd leave it there. There's still nutrients in it that the plant can recover. Once they brown off everything recoverable is gone. And I agree, it's Syagrus romanzoffiana

I agree leave the frond. I'm not sure where you are located but as long as it is warm you may want to mix some systemic granuals in the top of the soil and then water. I know there are some who aren't fans of using the pesticide but I have given all of my potted indoor/outdoor palms some granauls every August. They get soaked up in the roots and then when mites, scale, aphids or others bite into the plant they get a dose of poisen and killed. the first time I got palms I had no idea about these crtters and I ended up with an infestation. I have not had a problem since.

Normally I'd agree -- leave the frond until "brown and down". However, that queen won't even blink if you remove it now, and the palm will look so much better. It's a fast and robust grower.

Funny, the guy at the store told me to cut it off, he said the plant is using nutrients to keep that failing frond alive.

Thanks for the systemic granules idea. I haven't thought about that before, I'll have to look into that. I tried the insecticide soap before, but its just a never ending process in winter.
