Not sure about that one.... I googled it and got nothing. the fruit is probably not edible, like most palms (i think) lol. there are only a couple that can.

Mute or Mule?

I definitely think that InsanePalmNinja is talking about Mule palms. I dont know much about the fruit on Mule palms so I cant say for sure if the fruit is edible.

Jim, I don't think they reproduce. But may still produce fruit (like seedless oranges, etc). There may be a pit, that is sterile. I think I read that there are no male flowers produced by Mule Palms. Since they are crossed with queen palms and their fruit is not edible, if Mule palms produce fruit, it might not be edible, or perhaps just not palatable like pindos.

It may be that Mule palms are sterile and Mute palms are not,they are just very quite,I am no expert because they all seem quite to me.....but I still listen.

The fruit of the Butyagrus Mule Palm taste very similar to that of the Butia. It is very possible to make Jelly out of them or even a wine. If your crack open the seeds they taste like coconut. The Mule palm is self sterile but can be backcrossed as the female flowers on it are still receptive.

The key is to backcross the Mule and you will get it to fruit. I doubt you will want to eat them as I am sure you would just want to germinate them. Just use the Butia fruit. Here is a photo of the fruit of Butyagrus x Butia.

Erik, that's great. Pretty much what I had heard...sterile because of no male flowers, but wasn't sure how fruit would develop. Good info and pics.
