A lot of Cycas species and Encephalartos species come from hot dryish climates. Although, some don't like to get too cold. But Macrozamia macdonnellii is a desert dweller, so it should go quite well, depending on what you call "very cold in winter".

For most of the winter it's in the 30,s but can get down to the high teens and 20's. Thanks for the ideas. I'll check those out.

You are going to have to be more specific regarding the cold--though because it is a dry cold, that is an advantage. I really like my Dioon edule. It takes well to light frosts and is drought tolerant. Also, i can suggest Encephalartos natalensis. Both are also available at very reasonable prices and fairly common. I don't go into the really exotic ones because the prices can be quite high. But there are cycads adapted to arid climates. Cycas resoluta is not really one of the so if you can grow it, should have luck with many others.

If your talking about 15-20F or lower I think any
Cycad will brown out but with a little help from you....

For the most part it's dry in the winter. There will be times when the air is moist but mostly dry. And the 15-20 degree weather only happens a couple of nights at most. Sometimes not at all. I think I will try the dioon edule. The dioons are the ones I've been looking at the most. Thanks for everyone's help. I didn't think I had very many options but I guess I have more than I thought.
