oh i would like toadd that I live in HOUston and we have been in a severe drought all summer long. I had not watered this palm in over 2 weeks. If that makes a difference.

9 hours of rain!--It's been raining here for months on end here (2.5 FEET since August 1 alone and still tropical downpours occurring every day now. If the soil is well draining I wouldn't worry. I have containerized, arid-loving palms and they don't seem to mind it. I always DID have problems with the True Date Palm but this time planted in a very, VERY coarse soil (50% orchid mix, sand and a bit of humus)--so far, so good. Good luck!

I've taken photos of palm to compare the wilting fronds day by day. I have also dug up about 4-5 inches of top soil to try and air out the soil as much as possible. It wasnt muddy at all. I'm 5 feet tall and not very strong so I am not able to pull it out to dry out the roots or dig very deep to see the soil deep underneath. In any case if it does rot there is nothing I can do about it. :( sad.. its like watching a car wreck in slow motion... DANG IT!

I have done the same thing...dont feel bad!!!

Like the others have mentioned above, leave it alone...dont go poking around the tree. It will take care of it self. let it dry out and you will see improvememnt. Like NJ said, we are having tons of rain here on the east coast with days on end of rain...it will be fine.
