Is removing leaf bases on palms a bad idea?

I have a Majesty Palm that has a leaf base which isn't lose yet, but it's getting there. The frond was already cut off. Would I hurt the palm if I just remove the leaf base without even letting it fall off?

No you want hurt the palm. I keep my plants clean by removing old
leaf brackets. Some palms take forever to drop a boot, while others
like the Christmas drop them with no problem.

No, you can remove the base without hurting the palm. Majesty palms do not remove leaf bases as willingly as other palms so you will have to use a sharp knife to help you cut it. I wouldnt remove it until the base of the frond looks like it is shriveled up. At that point it is a little easier to remove.
