| I suspect my 3 inchs Cycas pup is half rotten as when I press it with my fingers it feels like a tomato. I feel it is somewhat tough inside and feels like a sponge from outside. This pup was like a tough onion a month ago when I chopped it from the base of the Cycas trunk and dried it for a week before planting it in the sea sand and perlite.
My greediness made me to keep the Cycas pup along with tiny pot inside microwave oven at 450W for 2 minutes and after 3 days a reddish/yellowish that looks like a wool formed over the grooves of the cycas pup and even during this time the pup was tough and slightly changed its colour to healthy red. After a week later I poured water to it in 4 inch pot. The next day when I touched it I realized I made a mistake pouring water. I replaced it in dry perlite. I checked the previous sea sand and found no rotten smell in sea sand as well as pup but the pup is somewhat spongy and hard. How can I rescue my pup ? I can't find pumice here. |

| Eric, Cycas revoluta will flush a new set of leaves only once a year at summer time. Google search to learn more. I want to experiment with this pup to know the secret inside the Cycas trunk. 3 days after the microwave test the pup was busy preparing some kind of wool in its grooves and a week later a touch of water stopped it to create more wool. The pup confused whether it's a summer or rainy season. Now it's thinking whether to live or die. Generally it will take 6 or more months for a pup to flush a new leaves. I did this to stimulate root growth as I don't want to wait for so long. My experiment will fail if it rots. |

| I know that much about cycads lol It's going to die most likely. Microwaving a plant is no replacement for summer. By puting your pup in the microwave for 2 minutes you basically cooked it into a giant popcorn kernel lol Patience is always the best solution. |

| Basically creates the same effect as deep freezing it but a lot faster, total eruption of all cell walls. |
