yard update

Hello all. I hope everyone had a great growing summer. I know I did. This is my seasonal Concrete Bronx jungle update! I planted the three trachys in early March, glad to say they grew at least 1 foot each. The one near the house grew at least a foot and a half! I'm not to excited about the winter but Believe it or not I'm Looking foward to building there mini green houses in early Dec. Got a lot of great ideas from reading these posts. I Picked up the palm in the front today for 39 dollars. I think its a pygmy date palm but not 100% sure. The one thing I know it will be comming in with me before the first frost hits. The Musa bajoo will be cut very high and wraped in insulation, it worked for me last year. Yucca recurvifolia was planted last month, it went through some shock hope it makes the winter. It seema like its doing ok now. Well have a good fall.

Yucca recurvifolia is now Yucca gloriosa 'recurvifolia'. They are fully hardy here, no problem.

Yes, that is Pygmy Date.

Not bringing anything in, until at least some time in late October (tropicals), others, early December works for me too---used to bring most everything in, just after Labor Day. I think it is going to be a warm Fall here bronxboy.

Awesome pics! Your yard is looking fantastic! I really like the urban tropical look! Your Y. Recurvifolia will make it through the winter without any problems. They are pretty hardy here. Very interesting to hear that it is considered a cultivator of gloriosa now NJ, I didn't know that!

You're definitely right with that pygmy palm ID. $39 is a pretty nice deal!

The trachys look great!

Good luck with protecting them, I'm sure you'll have no problems but at least you still have at least another 3 months before you have to deal with that!
