I realize there are two trees in the above image, I'm referring of course to the one that has seeds in it with the rough bark.

The second one, the butia/Pindo definitely has tasty fruit. You can eat the skin and fruit but I might suggest removing the skin as it is very fibrous, felt like I was eating a peach that had been rolled in fiberglass insulation. I have 6 seeds from one of those in a germination pot, but after reading up on them, it could take up to a year, maybe more before I see sprouts. Good luck to you on yours!

I was very surprise by the seed size and shape for the date palm and now, after researching it, although the fruit I got was on the ground, I don't think they had riped fully. The seeds don't really resemble seeds, more like slivers of wood so I guess I'll have to go back and be more selective.

Leekle, ha, I'm not eating anything I picked up in somebody yard! I just removed the fruit today, so I'll probably start propagating the butia tomorrow. Thanks. My first palm, a canary date palm sprouted in 3 weeks! Beginners luck I guess. We'll see with, so far with the butterfly and queen after 10 days nothing showing, saw some frizzys on the buttefly seeds....
