I have bought the below Chamaedorea, but I would like to know what type it is, it is still young and I am inexperienced so it's being very hard for me to identify it..
I think you actually have about 10 plants there, all Chamaedorea elegans. Either that, or you have a young Chamaedorea cataractarum, but likely the former... just a lot of germinated seeds in a small space.
thank you for answering.. it's definetly very young.. initially i thought it's bambo palm (chamaedorea seifrizii) or Chamaedorea hooperiana.. the place i've got it from has a lot of those and they are all similar.. you think so are separate seeds? thank you again!!
Chamaedorea elegans are often mass planted (as seeds) in pots to give that full look. All your plants are much the same size, chamaedorea seifrizii will have different sized plants in the clump as new ones sprout continuously.
I have a few Cham species..and its for sure that you cant cut a top and reroot them?..and its a sure thing the trunk/stem wont sprout a new leader? Then why do these palms get knobby trunks with air roots trying to burst out? If the cut trunk was treated with Auxins?..any ideas?
I have a C. elegans in the garden that got hit by a falling tree limb. It broke the top off the plant. Now, about 4 years later, the small stump of a trunk is still green, knobbly, but never a sign of a new crown forming. I knew that a trunk wouldn't resprout another crown, but what I didn't know that the trunk would stay alive for years without a crown. It appears that photosynthesis is continuing in the trunk and the roots are still functioning.
Tropicbreeze, I have seen a palm develop a new crown. It looked like it came out a little on the side of the tree. Eventually it looked normal. If you think your palm is still alive and roots are thriving you have a chance.
