Mounding and Palms

This will be my first winter with my plants and I am researching ways to protect them. One of the things I learned for my young citrus trees is mounding soil up around their trunks. My Roebellinis only have about 3-4" of trunk currently and I'm wondering if mounding would work for them too or if it would be a good way to introduce disease and rot for palms?

Mounding has two negative effects in palms... one is rot at the base of the trunk... a second is less heat radiation from the ground surface during a severe freeze event (this is why they actually DONT mound here around the citrus groves so that they get more heat from the earth rising and preventing more damage to the rest of the tree... ).

Mounding around the perimeter is useful for soil drainage and improving soil quality, but I would not push my mound up the trunk.
