They look as nice as any the same size in mild San Francisco Jim. Where in Iowa did you find a C.medullaris??

The Cyathea Cooperi will grow massive fronds quickly. Mine flushes three times a year, once in March, another in summer and yet another in December. The spring and fall fronds are lush, airy and very large. Those that grow out in the summer are very compact and about 3/4 the size. I could immagine in a place like Iowa, with all the humidity, and with the shade it looks you've given it, it would grow large fronds fairly quickly.

Brownii is actually a bigger fern than the other ones
and is already proving to be unreal in regard to growth,
the other ferns are not in the same league!

My T.ferns are still small enough that they grow all spring,summer,fall.
Cooperi is very tough as it has endured 106F heat and
less than 2" rain in 3+ months,last years 60"+ over
the same time frame had them doing better.
The humidity has been very low here lately....
