Parlor Palm question

Is it normal for the trunk of a Parlor Palm to be much thinner at the point where it goes into the ground, as compared to the broadness of the trunk several inches above the soil line? The attached pic is a bit blurry, but if you look at the trunk at the soil line then look at the trunk at the top of the picture, you can get at least an idea of what I'm talking about. And the trunk above what shows in the picture is even broader. Thanks!

sorry, can't see much without some focus. Are you sure the stem is actually thinner below, or does it have more retained leaf bases higher up (making it look fatter)? but normally Chamaedorea elegans has a constant stem diameter that is the same thickness from top to bottom.

Where the trunk meets the potting medium, it is 5/8 inch in diameter. Up the trunk 4 inches from the soil line, the trunk is 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Yes there are leaf bases up there also, that are not at the soil line.

Thank You lzddr for responding. I will assume it is simply the leaf bases. Other than the diameter difference, the palms look healthy. They are growing well and 'bloom' regularly.
