Chinese fans are NOT hardy in zone 7 without some real protection. Sorry, but they really are not nearly as hardy as Needles, Windmills, Sabals, Butias, or even Mexican Fans.--Based on my own experience.

Do you think it will be ok if i use my patio and cover the screen with plastic (like a green house)?

Its best to wait to Spring, planting too late in the season and then adding a cold winter makes them much less cold tolerant. Your zone will be OK if you plant them in the Spring and let them adjust and protect them in the winters like you said.

They are deifnately freeze tolerant (mine were in pots and covered with snow many times, they did die later that winter though). I would rate them as cold tolerant to about 15 degrees with mulch, so they will need protection probably for their entire lives, but they should make it. Theya re cheap thouuh so it wont be too big of a loss if they dont make it. They are one of the few palms you can get up north that are cheap and at least somewhat cold tolerant.

yup they are freeze tolerant, but planting is best in Spring to increase tolerance and if your a true zone 7 we will drop below 10-15 at least a few times if its a normal winter. Jim and T7 you have the same message?
