Are you sure it is an Areca Palm (Dypsis), looks more like a Chamaedorea to me. In any event, your palm is extremely dry. The soil it is in is essentially peat moss. Peaty soils can become extremely difficult to saturate once they dry out. I would transplant it into a more palm friendly soil. Soil needs more humus, perlite and/or coarse sand. I would submerge it immediately into a bucket of water and saturate the rootball, wait a day or so, then transplant.

I'd agree, it does look like a Chamaedorea, and a multiple planting (handful of seed in the pot). They're quite good indoors and don't need direct sun. They're an understorey palm. Soaking it and putting it into good soil is your best course.

I agree.. Chamaedoreas⦠you can water the heck out of those (hard to over water them). And also NO sunlight is best for them. Agree totally with above suggestions.

Nope, it's definitely an areca palm. And yes, it requires lots of water. Should water twice weekly.

I still say it's a Chamaedorea (or multiple of the of one plant, like elegans)- not growing like a suckering plant, but lots of individuals…. .though seeing the rest of the palm(s) would sure help. But as others have said, water it more (daily would be great), but start with, you will probably need to soak it all in a larger pot for an hour to get the soil to hold some water).

I'd also definitely stick with Chamaedorea and not an Areca. Neither the genuine Areca, nor the Dypsis sometimes wrongly called Areca.
