Nice one, Laura. I like to trim mine using a utility knife for a really sharp cut. I guess you could call this "detailing" your palm, for the truly obsessive-compulsive palm person :)

I did this to my bottle palm too. Its not too big, but now it has a ring or two on the bottom. It looks much better!
