I finally stumbled across a bunch of Sabal Louisiana on a back road in the Cajun Country near Thibodaux. I studied up on this sabal before my trip, so I'm confident that's what i found. The leaves were very large compared to true sabal minors and were slightly costapalmate (much less so than s. palmetto). But the real clue was that the largest palms were probably 10' to 12' tall and had a bit of a trunk, just like the photos on the websites I studied. Best of all, many had multiple stalks of ripe seeds that were easy to harvest. I didn't even get my shoes muddy like in east Texas yesterday while collecting sabal minor seeds. Mission accomplished.
