My guess would be it has suffered some root damage...
did it dry out or possibly go through a period of being water logged?

Or,possibly suffered being way to wet after a very dry period.

Usually the type of damage you are indicating is from some type of trauma,a picture may help.

No trama of any kind...never water logged or has never dried out....I did spray it with a reduced mixture of "Green Earth" insecticidal soap for a small spider mite infestation....now that I think of it this problem occured shortly after....did not affect any other palms though.
