A nice surprise in the yard

I worked on winterizing my yard this weekend. Hate this time of year...cutting back plants, digging up ensete, etc.
I knew I had a hidden minor 'Hatteras' that was crowded and had to be moved to an open location in the spring. I figured I would dig it up and pot it so the roots can get established and hopefully transplant easier in the spring. I was surprised how big it really was.

Here is the sabal minor 'Hatteras' in 2011.

Would you know there is a sabal minor between the crepe myrtle shrubs?

Nice growth in 15 month and without being protected last winter in an open North facing location.

Trachy did very well this summer. Carl Pool fertilizer is good stuff.

Needle a little ratty in spring 2011 after a cold 2010 winter

18 months later in Nov 2012

Look what my sweet potato vine produced. I know they are edible but I passed. Amazing size.

Looks like I need to get my hands on some Carl Poole fertilizer. All of your palms have done very well in just 18 months. I'm sure the crepes helped that sabal minor. How did the root system look on it when you dug it up?
