Mass cane question

| Maybe not the right forum, but I figure most folks here have an array of tropical plants. Anyway, one of my oldest is a mass cane. Had it over 10 years. Stays in a low light area inside over the Winter, and under a maple tree during the warm months. Brought it in sometime back and noticed unusual growth from the tops. Turns out, it flowered. Really fragrant, almost too sweet, an aroma. Well, the flowers are going now, but the plant is yellowing severely despite the fact that it's not gettting any different treatment from years past. Do these guys flower, then die? |

| Dracaena fragrans massangeana has a VERY aromatic flower. I'm kind of surprised it hasn't flowered sometime in the 10 years you've had it. Yes the tip that produces the flower will die off after the process. Just that single tip not the whole plant. That's why you're seeing the decline. Most of the canes have multiple tips/heads. Hope this helps. |
