Clumping King Palm

Posted by antipex (My Page) on

Earlier this year I picked up a King Palm from Home Depot thinking it was an attractive "bushy" palm. It seems to need a lot of water, so I did some research and found out what it really is! I'm happy to have a full blown tree, but I'm curious why the palm is "clumped" into three trunks.

Will this be a problem as the tree grows, and/or is there a way to separate it into three palms?

Here's a photo of the tree: (I will definitely move it into a bigger pot soon)

The greenery around part of the palm is from some Chinese Poppy seeds I planted for decoration, but none of them grew flowers.

They were planted like that and they will be fine. If you separate them now you might kill them if you live in an area that gets cool in the winter. You might kill them anyway by separating them.

Kings are generally planted as doubles and triples. They're separate plants but look good since they have thin trunks and curve nicely.
