Is there any way to remove the entire palm or divide this palm. It is under the eve of the house and is growing out toward the light and hitting the underside of the eve. I think its a bamboo palm. Thanks :)

RE: Moving a bamboo palm to another area

Yes, those are bamboo palms (Chamaedorea Elegans). I think that you should be able to transplant the whole clump elsewhere as long as you take a huge chunk of roots/dirt with it. You could start by digging on one side and little by little keep digging until you've surrounded the palm with a little trench. This should be done with plenty of time between "trenching" sessions to not have the palm go into shock for having all of it's roots pruned at once. I don't know if this makes sense, but it is reffered to as "root pruning." Ideally, the process should be started a year before the transplant happens to decrease the risk of losing the plant. You could begin root pruning this year, and transplant the clump sometime in early summer. Good Luck!

The only thing that I could think of that could affect your palm is that the new place should be just as shady/sunny. Since a plant grown in shade will burn in full sun.

Here is a link that might be useful: Here is a better explanation of root pruning
