Fine leaflets with very sharp spines near the base end?

Sounds like it but I dont see the sharp spines near the base.

I went out and took a photo to better explain what I mean. You can see the long sharp spines towards the base of the fronds. I think yours in the photo has the same, not clear though. But avoid the spines, they are extremely vicious. I've given up trimming off the old dead fronds on mine. They can trim their own, LOL.

Looks like Phoenix roebellini to me. Rdnofl., yours is still too immature to show those spines. If you this this species is prickly, you should see its relatives!

Thanks for all the help. I looked closer and the spines are there but very fine at this size. I generally see these planted in groups of three, will it pup easily or is this done at the nursery?
I have a spot near the side walk leading to my front door that it would look nice, but I am now thinking not a good idea because of the spines.

It's interesting that in the wild Phoenix roebelenii is a clumping palm, however, as far as I know all the cutivated ones are single stemmed.

The P. roebelenii were on my place when I moved in, otherwise, I wouldn't have put any in myself. I've also another Phoenix, I suspect sylvestris, but it's still small. Not my favourite genus. For palms "armed to the teeth" with spines though, have you seen Salacca zalacca? Now that is one mean bad guy!
