Looks like a travelers palm to me. Did it have fronds like a banana tree?

yeah def a travelers palm. not really a palm but thats the name. also known as Ravenala madagascariensis. they get HUGE and have a good growth rate if you live in the right place. I THINK there hardy in zone 9 but a quick google search to confirm wouldnt hurt. I have about 10 seeds right now in a propagator and they won't bust open so I suggest getting a small plant to start with.

I agree, definitely a Travelers palm. They have a similar look to Birds of Paradise which is pretty commonly sold at the big box stores like Home Depot. Birds of Paradise should have no problem doing well in your zone 9, but Travelers palms are a bit more cold sensitive (but should do okay in a zone 9 in Florida most years).
Travelers palms are really beautiful with age, they get really tall and it never makes leaves in 3 dimensions like most plants do!

I have seen a giant white bird of paradise that was well over 30 ft tall in the conservatory but it never grows a trunk like at the bottom of the pic so hands down travelers palm. the traveler palm at that same conservatory is somewhere around 50 ft tall but dosen't have a very wide spread

Thanks guys. Did the leaves on this fall off, because it didnt have the large leaves at the tips. Im gonna get me one of these, as i fell in love at first sight. Is it true that they grow super fast?

Would give careful thought to the traveles palm.. They have about every bad habit a landscape plant can have .
I planted one at the edge of my propeerty cost me 600
bucks to have it removed lol.Still have a 3 foot pit where the roots were lol gary

I have a 30 ft travelers palm in my yard. Beautiful tree. They are much larger than bird of paradise. More exotic I think. No problem growing them here in zone 10b.

These are nice looking plants, but pretty darn marginal in zone 10a in California, and usually look pretty sad (some exceptions)... not possible to grow in my zone (9b) and for the short time they are alive they look terrible. Here they are certainly not fast growers... Bird of Paradise much faster. Don't think they are exceptionally fast growers anywhere, but they are not slow in the tropics. They are, however, very invasive in tropical climates (taking over Madagascar as we speak).
