passi not looking so good

I have a P.edulis in a 2 gallon pot, growing up a 4' trellis and right next to a window. It has been doing fine until just recently.

The lower leaves started yellowing and falling off. Now the lower leaves (what's left) are still yellowing and looking a little wilted. The top of my soil is dry, but an inch or two down it is still moist. I have tried to water infrequently to prevent rot/fungi.

I wonder what is going on. If it needed water, wouldn't the whole plant look wilted? I admit I don't fertilize it much (especially during winter) - what else would cause lower leaves to yellow?

This is the only passi I have left (lost the others last winter). Would cuttings taken now have a chance at rooting? I don't have a heat mat but do have a warm-ish bathroom.
