how to get seeds dehusked

Last year I got my best germination - by far - when I planted seeds from a passionfruit that had dried up before I harvested the seeds. So, I collected a dozen fruits this autumn, let them dry, and am beginning to harvest the seeds. The question is - how to remove the paper husk around each seed? Right now I am doing it by hand, very tedious and takes a long time.

Do you mean the dried arils, the part that hold the juice in a fresh, ripe fruit? I don't recall any benefit in removing this when they're dried--I've yet to hear of any benefit to germination. When a fruit is fresh I'll separate the seeds out, but that's just because the wet, pulpy arils are messy and don't store well. But if the fruit is dried out, I wouldn't worry with it.

Rub 'em on a metal screen?

I've had good results goo on or off- So I'm not sure it matters. Can be just a bit tedious to get off either wet or dried tho.

I find it easy to clean fresh seeds by simply spreading the seed containing arils on a paper towel. The aril sticks to the paper, and you can then press it with your finger and pop the seed out clean. If the arils are dried, you should be able to rehydrate them, and clean as if fresh. However, I agree that it probably does not matter if they are cleaned or not.
