Methinks you're over-analyzing the situation. In zone 10, you ought to just be able to let a caerulea sit and never worry about it again, save occasional watering. Caerulea can withstand mild freezing temperatures without losing a leaf. Last winter we had an ice storm, and mine in the back yard was sheathed for three days straight and showed no ill effects.

How large is the pot? Often times nurseries sell plants in pots too small for the root systems.

My immediate guess is that the plant is over-watered. Caerulea, by most accounts, is far more tolerant of over-watering than many passiflora species, but is not immune to the ill effects. My advice would be to transplant into a somewhat larger pot with a nice potting soil mix and then stop worrying about it so much. Only water when the soil begins drying out (maybe once a week or so) and I'd expect the plant to put out new growth before long.

Caerulea is supposed to be "hardy for zone 7-10", you should be fine. "Temperatures below 20 degrees will kill the top of the plant, but mulched around the base it will re-grow in the spring and flower and fruit each year" Those are quotes from my Raintree catalog, their horitculturists are always a huge help to me. Just wanted to give you some encouragement. My personal experience is only with "Maypops" (passiflora incarnata) which grow as a wildflower here (thank goodness)-but I cultivate them because I love them so much. One thing I have learned about plants is that they are like people=they simply get tired after being stressed, and need time to be loved and get some rest.
