Passiflora sp. Survival in zone 4?!?!

I purchased a Passiflora labeled "Passiflora sp." or " Blue and WHite Passiflora". It was very close to Passiflora Cerulea, So I thought id give it a go, and see if it would over winter here. I uncovered it, and while most of the outside vine are a blond colour ( dead im assuming), many of the vines that were under the rest have nice fairly green bottoms. I should expect this to regrow from the roots this year correct?

If it's green and alive it should come back but I'm really surprised that it survived your winter outside, even with protection. I've had cold hardy passies die in years that we've had unusually cold temps and I'm in 7a.

Im suprised too, but it was under a pile of leaves 3x3 feet, then a layer of plastic to keep the ost of the cold air and wet off it. Plus the 3 feet of snow we got helped.

Caerulea dies back, just like Incarnata in harsh winters. Simple multch can stretcb their limits quite far appperantly. I just wanted to make sure that in this case green = life...
