Basic question- please help!

Hello,

I recently inherited three passion vines. Aparently they were taken off a mother plant last season from suckers. (I dont think they are cuttings). I am not sure exactly what conditions I should provide to make them thrive. Are there some basic things I should avoid? Our temperatures get quite hot in the summer (100's) and the sun can be brutial in July. Will direct sun kill this poor vine? The plant is 1 foot long now, if everything goes well will I get flowers this season? Anything you could tell me about this spectacular plant would be great.!

Garden web is great but it would be nice if they offered basic culture information on various plants.

It would help to know what type of passi you have. Describing it could help, as there are many species and hybrids. However, I've never let a lack of knowledge keep me from offering my opinion.

Assuming the suckers were from a plant already growing in Texas, the choices of what it could be are thankfully limited. It's most likely either an incarnata (maypop), Incense or caerulea. There are a few others it could be, but those are the likely candidates. You'll be happy to know they can all stand the heat. They love sun--the more the better (except when young seedlings, but that's not an issue here). Enjoy!
