I'm in the piedmont of NC. I planted a passion plant 2 years ago, and it came back last year, climbing a trellis and trying to go elsewhere. This year it's all brown and withered. Is there a way for me to check now to see if it's alive? I didn't cut it back last Fall. If it's dead, how soon can I plant another, and are there recommendations on where to purchase one?

If you want dig around the base & see if the roots are still alive. If so, wait, it'll regrow. If not... Well... There's lots of sources for seeds and / or plants, most online but there you'll likely get a tiny one. For a full grown adult plant go to Lowes or Home Depot- They *should* have some soon.

Hardy passionflowers, like p. incarnata, die back all the way to the ground, and then sprout from the roots, often quite late in spring. Do you know what kind you planted last year? Not all of 'em can take a hard frost in winter. Jim

I don't know what kind it was. I'll try to look for a hardy one when I check out the full grown ones at Home Depot or Lowes. Many thanks!

| What color were the blooms? The ones that I have that are hardy in the ground are the caeruleas, incense and incarnata. I have tried lavender lady, edulis, lady margaret and vitiflorea but none of them came back in the spring. All of the ones that I have that are hardy are purple or purple/white except for the Constance Elliot (Caerulea) and it is pure white. Patsy
