It is my understanding you can polinate your Edulis blooms with another plant of Edulis as long as it is not a clone. Someone correct me if I am wrong.....

From what I've been reading, self-fertile refers to crossing a plant with itself. This could be either moving pollen from a flower to it's own pistil or to another flower pistil on the same plant(genetically identical flowers).

I don't think it could be the case that different members of a species could not interbreed (by definition they have to be able to produce fertile offspring to be a species).

Non-self fertile plants then, would only need another member of the species to set fruit. The second plant would need to be something other than a clone from the first plant, because clones are genetically the same plant, even though they're separate.

That's my two cents, 1 1/2 of it borrowed from GW. lol.

Here is a link that shows how edulis (purple variety) is self fertile and does not need a pollinator. Edulis (yellow fruited variety) howeever does need a pollinator from a separate clone. I would think that the caerula would be a good pollinator for most others. I have read that passiflora like most living things have a type of 'immune system' that prevents pollination from incompatible species. Guess the plants know which is which lol. It would be pretty cool to find something to supress this immunity to allow more cross pollination between the species and see what could happen though ;)
